Meet Sara
Born and raised in Basalt, I grew up as a local in the Roaring Fork Valley. I went through the Basalt school system and graduated as my class’ valedictorian. I then earned a B.S. degree in Creative Writing from Bucknell University in Pennyslvania. After college, I spent a year living abroad in Mount Maunganui and Wanaka, New Zealand before returning home to pursue a career in marketing. Prior to real estate sales, I served as the sales and marketing manager at the Roaring Fork Club in Basalt and then the marketing director at Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Realty until 2018.
I currently office out of the Old Thompson Barn at River Valley Ranch in Carbondale. I focuses on residential real estate home and land sales from Old Snowmass to New Castle. My colleague Penney Carruth and I produce the Mid-Valley Market Report twice a year. It provides home sales history in Basalt, Missouri Heights, Carbondale and the Crystal Valley from 2004 to the present. We also co-founded the Women of ASSIR, a group of women within the company that meets monthly and aims to foster mentorship, support and community outreach in local affordable housing (see further details below). I am known to be detailed and thorough, anticipating the needs of my clients from a seasoned customer service oriented perspective. My philosophy with clients is personal, proactive and professional - as it should be!
I am am hard of hearing - I was diagnosed with a moderate-to-severe hearing loss at age two. I have an 80% hearing loss, which means that I need to wear hearing aids to hear normally. I love to share my story and learn about other people's hearing loss and hearing aids - ask me about it any time!
Like visitors and new homeowners in the Aspen area, I try to spend as much time as possible outdoors with my daughter Ayla and our dog June. We spend our weekends snowboarding/skiing, hiking, fishing, camping, rafting, paddleboarding and sitting lakeside. I ran my first half-marathon down the Frying Pan River in June 2022. I also just completed an online MBA with a concentration in marketing in the Spring of 2023.
PROUD MEMBER OF THE WOMEN OF ASSIR
My colleague Penney Carruth and I also founded an all women’s group within our brokerage firm, named the Women of ASSIR. We started it in the Spring of 2020, during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown in an effort to foster connection and continued support among the women in our company during an uncertain time.
Today, we meet once a month virtually or in-person where we share our observations of the real estate market conditions and provide feedback and strategies to help one another navigate through the daily ins and outs of our business. We bring in various presenters and guests, and will also do exclusive virtual tours at our listings and share new listings and buyer needs. Starting in 2023, Sara and Penney will also host casual drop-in lunches for women to join and discuss current client or contract issues, providing mentorship and even more support.
We also wanted to get involved in the community as a group. In the Spring of 2022, the Women of ASSIR hosted a fundraiser at the Old Thompson Barn in River Valley Ranch. The fundraiser benefited 3 local organizations, Aspen Valley Land Trust, the Aspen Hope Center and Advocate Safe House Project (see photos above). Starting in 2023, the Women of ASSIR will be focusing their community outreach with Habitat for Humanity and the local affordable housing crisis.
