Before & After: The Transformation of 50 N. River Road in Old Snowmass

Few homes see a complete renovation of the entire interior and exterior - the project can get expensive and extensive. However, this riverfront home has undergone an inspiring complete transformation, inside and out.

BEFORE

Originally a traditional 3-story mountain home built in 2001, the interiors had yellow pine flooring, baseboard and cabinetry, cream colored walls and lots of tile. The exterior stucco was a sandy beige and the exterior wood work was tired and cedar colored.

AFTER

Now, the home boasts a lighter, more contemporary feel using today’s gray, dark brown and clean white palette. New dark brown porcelain tile that resembles wood, but is far more durable, replaced all of the traditional square tile throughout the home. All of the walls are now a lighter cream white, with stark white baseboards and dark brown window trim to accent the darker floors.

THE EXTERIOR

Outside, the original stucco was painted a more contemporary ivory white and dark brown borders were painted around all of the windows to give the exterior more texture and contrast. All of the exterior wood work was stained a dark brown. A pathway from the parking area behind the home to the front entrance was added, adding more curb appeal and more functional access. The landscaping along the driveway and in front of the home was also refreshed.

THE MAIN LEVEL

The walk-in, main level of the home has always been open and inviting with a formal living area, gourmet kitchen, two dining rooms, a powder room, a den/bedroom and full bathroom. A deck overlooking the river offers ample space to BBQ outdoors.

The star feature of the great room was the original floor to ceiling river stone fireplace. It was professionally textured with a gray smear, leaving a mountain flair, but giving it an sophisticated update. All of the kitchen black counter tops were replaced with a white and gray swirl granite. A rustic sliding barn door replaced the original pantry doors. All of the cabinets in the kitchen were painted gray and updated with metal hardware. The original cooper and wood railings around the stairwell and on the master bedroom balcony that overlooks the great room were replaced with custom black metal designed to resemble tree branches.

THE MASTER BEDROOM SUITE

The luxurious master bedroom occupies the entire third floor of the house creating space away from guests and family staying in the bedrooms on the lower level. The large master bedroom includes a full bar with wine fridge and a new custom wood panel wall stained to look like barn wood. The gas fireplace and seating area, along with a private deck overlooking the river offer ample places to relax inside and out. The trim in the master bedroom was painted a light gray to soften up the color palette.

The master bathroom is equally luxurious with a steam shower with two shower heads, a Jacuzzi tub, his and her toilets and sink areas. The renovation updated the existing tile flooring with new metallic tiles and added texture to the wall behind the his and her sinks with a new white stone.

THE LOWER ENTERTAINMENT LEVEL

The entire lower level of the home is built to entertain family and guests. All 3 of the bedrooms and both full bathrooms were retouched with new paint. Both bathrooms were updated with new granite counter tops, back splashes and new tile in the showers. A large recreation room with a full bar offers space for a pool table, games and a sitting area. The counter tops in the bar were replaced with thick raw edged wood. The same wood was used to build new shelves behind the bar. The theater room still offers a cozy place to watch movies, but the walls were updated to a light gray. The lower level also offers a laundry room and two large storage rooms. Two of the three bedrooms offer walk-out access to the large patio overlooking the river.
